OLYMPIC PENINSULA FISHING

BOAT WRECKS
Please read the disclaimer at the bottom of the page.

Some of these rivers on the Olympic Peninsula are Class 3 white water. Knowing when to float these Class 3 section of river depends on certain water height. This is this is the key to having a safe ride and a fun day of fishing.
THESE SECTION ARE VERY DANGEROUS MAKE SURE THE ONE ROWING HAS DONE THIS TYPE CLASS WATER.
DON'T LET THIS RAPID LEAD YOU THE WRONG WAY. GUIDE KELSEY GORUM HANDLES THESE CLASS 3 TYPE RAPIDS EVERY DAY.
GOING WITH A PRO GUIDE FOR THE FIRST TIME IS A GREAT IDEA, FOR LEARNING THE RIVER AND ALSO TO SEE IF THE CHALLENGE OF THE RAPIDS SUIT YOUR OWN ROWING ABILITIES.
THE CALAWAH AND SOL DUC ARE TWO RIVERS THAT ARE CLASS 3 AND 4 WHITE WATER. THESE SECTION ARE ROUGHER THAN OTHER PARTS OF THE RIVER. TECHNICAL ROW ABILITIES ARE A MUST BEFORE EVEN ATTEMPTING THESE FLOATS.
HELLS HALF MILE ON THE SOUTH FORK OF THE CALAWAH RIVER, CLASS 3 WHITE WATER

THIS OARSMAN LET THE BOAT DRIFT TO FAR TO HIS LEFT HAVING LOW WATER CONDITIONS AND VERY STRONG CURRENT IT PULLED HIM ONTO A BIG ROCK CAUSING THE STERN TO GO DOWN, LETTING THE WATER SWAMP THE BOAT. THIS IS HOW MOST BOATS GO DOWN.
THIS BOATER WENT THE WRONG WAY. GETTING INTO SHALLOW WATER AND COULD NOT STOP.
Accidents like this happen. If this should happen please call (360) 374-9018 as I can help get law and rescue enforcement on the way to the right section of river. I can also help in recovering your gear.
Sometimes a diver like Jack Iotte is needed, if the boat has sank. He can get a line on it. Then the winching starts.
If all else fails, its time to get the helicopter. I have done allot of this type recovery. If the boat is hung under logs or sunk to the bottom this method is the ONLY way of recover.
This works very good. The only thing is that its $800.00 a hour so have things ready to hook up when the copter arrive.
ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE PROPER FLOATATION DEVICES FOR EACH PERSON ON BOARD THE BOAT, AND THAT THEY ARE COAST GUARD APPROVED.
LIFE JACKETS ARE A MUST WHEN ROWING THESE BOATS AND ALSO A STATE LAW.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYONE GETTING HURT OR DAMAGES DUE TO THESE TYPE OF ACCIDENTS.
9-1-1 FOR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE
COAST GUARD STATION AT LA PUSH (360) 374-5112
STATE PATROL 1-800-283-7808
My advice is to call one of these law enforcements for help or someone that has done this type of recover before.
All Law Enforcement and Coast Guard should be notified at once of this type of accident.
Attempting this on your own is very dangerous.
This advice is my own.
